Israel at Mt. Sinai
Wednesday, March 5th & Sunday, March 9th
Key Passage: Exodus 19
Basic Truth: God determines what is right and what is wrong
Memory Verse: "For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles a just one point is guilty of breaking all of it."
Think about it:
We love to see fireworks - at a
certain level. We would miss them at Fourth of July celebrations; but the
near-eruption of Mt. Sinai was a time of terror for the people at the base of
the mountain, including Moses himself. The closest we Americans have come to such a scene was on May
18, 1980, when Mount St. Helens erupted in the most devastating explosion in
modern history.
Our Creator
is the source of all love, all compassion, and all gentleness. But we can never let our love and
respect for Him deteriorate into mere sentimentality. God is holy and righteous, with
unquestionable authority to judge right and wrong! “…let us be thankful,
and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming
fire.” (Hebrews
12:28-29)
Ask it:
All Levels

A: God promised to bless and protect Israel on the condition that they would obey Him fully. Anything less than total obedience would be punished.
Grade 5-6
Q: How did God show that the nation of Israel belonged to Him?
A: After demonstrating His limitless love and care for the nation of Israel, God confirmed HIs sovereign rule by giving His perfect Law.
Family Activities:
1) Try playing a familiar game but let each person change on of the rules. Each change applies only to the person who changed that rule. What's it like to have each person decide what is right or wrong?
2) Psalm 119 makes reference to God's Law in every verse. Read the first 16 verses (or further) finding other names that are used for God's Law. What are some reasons why the author loves God's Law?
