Commandments 1-4
Wednesday, March 12th & Sunday, March 16th
Key Passage: Exodus 20: 1-11
Basic Truth: God is holy
Memory Verse: "Exalt the LORD our God and worship at His holy mountain, for the LORD our God is holy." Psalm 99:9
Think about it:
When seeking to produce pure
silver, a refiner turns up the heat until all the impurities are burned off,
and he can see his reflection clearly in the molten metal. Sometimes during the process there are
loud popping sounds as the dross is brought to the surface and consumed.
God’s holiness is not just a
list of negatives. But He uses His
Word and the heat of trials in our lives to expose our sinful thoughts and acts.
These, too, need to be burned off,
so that His image may be revealed in us as it was in the Lord Jesus. “The
crucible for silver and the furnace for gold, but the Lord tests the heart.”
(Proverbs 17:3)
Insight into God’s holiness
will bring an accurate assessment of our sinful condition.
