Basic Truth: Eternal life is a gift from God.

Memory Verse: For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. John 3:16

Discussion Questions: 

All Levels

Q: What is eternal life? 

A: Eternal life means having a correct relationship--fellowship--with God now and forever!

Grade 1-2

Q: Why does eternal life have to come from God? 

A: All people are sinners. Only God can take away our sin and make us acceptable to live with Him. 

Grade 3-4

Q: How do we get eternal life? 

A: God gives eternal life as a gift to anyone who has faith in Jesus as the only way to be saved. 

Grade 5-6

Q: How can we be sure we have eternal life? 

A: Eternal life doesn't depend on what we do--it's a gift that God promised to give to all who believe in Jesus. We see evidence of eternal life in a life of love and obedience to God. 

Family Activities:

1) Let anyone in your family who has been Born Again retell the story of how they received Jesus as their Savior. 

2) Look at a photo album or home video to see how we've grown physically. How are you growing up spiritually?

Key Passages: John 1:35-51 and Luke 5:1-11; 6:12-16

Basic Truth: God reveals Himself to mankind because of His grace.

Memory Verse: (But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God), that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. (Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.) 1 Peter 2:9-10

Discussion Questions: 

All Levels

Q: Why is it so special to know we have ben chosen by God?

A: We don't deserve to be His people, but God will continue to claim us as HIs own because He chooses to do so!

Grade 1-2

Q: How does Jesus teach us about God? 

A: Jesus shows us what God is like by everything that He said or did, because Jesus is God. 

Grade 3-4

Q: Why does God reveal Himself to people? 

A: God wants a special relationship with mankind, even though we are all sinners and deserve God's wrath. 

Grade 5-6

Q: What does it mean to be a disciple of Jesus? 

A: Jesus' disciples are called to be loyal followers, committed to learning and obeying His teachings. 

Family Activities:

1) If you could be a disciple of anyone on earth, whom would you choose? What would you want to learn? How would it change your life? 

2) If someone in your family has been an apprentice, share what it was like. How is being an apprentice for a job similar to being a disciple of Jesus?

Basic Truth: Jesus came to reveal God's truth

Memory Verse: In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son...

Discussion Questions: 

All Levels

Q: How did God speak to us through His Son?

A: Because Jesus is God, His words are God's words. His whole life demonstrates what God is like. 

Grade 1-2

Q: Why does Jesus have authority to tell us about God?

A: Jesus is God! Jesus came to earth to tell people what God is like and what God wants them to know. Everything He says is true and right. 

Grade 3-4

Q: How was Jesus' teaching about the kingdom of God different from what the Jews expected? 

A: The kingdom of God is not just peace in a physical kingdom where armies are defeated. God wants to rule in the hearts of people, bringing peace with God and defeat to Satan. Both Jews and Gentiles who have faith in Jesus will be accepted into God's kingdom. 

Grade 5-6

Q: Why did Jesus come to earth? 

A: Jesus came to carry out God's plan to reveal His truth, to redeem sinners and to defeat Satan. 

Family Activities:

1) Describe an imaginary kingdom where you would like to live. Would you like to be the king? Why or why not? 

2) Read a portion of God's Word together.

The Tempting of Jesus

The Tempting of Jesus: Lesson 5

Key Passages: Luke 4:1-13

Basic Truth: God's way is always right. 

Memory Verse: No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it. 

Discussion Questions: 

All Levels

Q: Why does Satan tempt us to sin?

A: Satan is God's enemy and wants us to be separated from God. 

Grade 1-2

Q: Why does God tell us what is right? 

A: God tells us what is right and what is wrong so we will know when Satan is tempting us and can say "no"!

Grade 3-4

Q: How does Jesus help us to refuse Satan's temptations?  

A: Jesus demonstrated how to deal with temptaiton by refusing to use His abilities for selfish gain and by refusing to claim His rights. He focused on God's plan and the truth of God's Word. 

Grade 5-6

Q: How are all temptations similar?  

A: Satan's temptations always come from lies and deception and would entice us to sin against God. All temptation can be refused if we focus on God's truth. 

Family Activities:

1) Discuss: How can family members help each other to resist Satan's temptations? 

2) Evaluate your plan to memorize God's Word (Lesson 1). Is it working? If you haven't made a plan, it's never too late :)
