Key Passage: Exodus 5-10

Basic Truth: God is the one and only true God.

Memory Verse: "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline." Proverbs 1:7

Think about it: 

“Among the gods there is none like you, O Lord; no deeds can compare with yours. 

All the nations you have made will come and worship before you, O Lord; they will bring glory to your name. 

For you are great and do marvelous deeds; you alone are God. 

Teach me your way, O LORD, and I will walk in your truth; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name. 

I will praise you, O Lord my God, with all my heart; I will glorify your name forever.”

(Psalm 86:8-12)

Q: What does it mean to fear the LORD?

A: To fear the LORD means to be overwhelmed with a sense of awe and deep respect when we see His greatness. 

Grade 1-2

Q: How did God prove His control over the plagues? 

A: The disasters came and went at His command and sometimes not to the Israelites.

Grade 3-4

Q: Why did God send the plagues of Egypt? 

A: God would use the plagues to show HIs power over the false gods of Egypt. God wants everyone to know that He is the ONLY true God. God was carrying out His plans to free the Israelites from Egyptian slavery. 

Grade 5-6

Q: What choice do we need to make when God reveals Himself? 

A: God gave mankind the ability to choose whether or not to accept Him as the only true God who is worthy to be the center of our lives. 

Family Activities:

1) Discuss: How does God show that He is the only true God? Share examples from the Bible and personal experience of things that only God could do. Record personal examples. 

2) Worship God together with a song or Psalm.

Key Passage: Exodus 3 and 4

Basic Truth: God reveals Himself to mankind.

Memory Verse: "Be still, and know that I am God. Psalm 46: 10a

Think about it: 

Moses had a personal experience in which God revealed Himself in a magnificent way.  Has God spoken to YOU?  Have you met the LORD, the Almighty, in a way that causes you to recognize His holiness and majesty?

“Praise be to the LORD God, the God of Israel, who alone does marvelous deeds.  Praise be to His glorious name forever; may the whole earth be filled with his glory.

Amen and Amen.”   (Psalm 72:18-19)

Q: What do you know about God? 

A: Review some attributes of God...

Grade 1-2

Q: Why did God speak to Moses? 

A: God wanted Moses to know that He loved and cared about HIs people and would keep His promise to rescue them from slavery. 

Grade 3-4

Q: What did God reveal about Himself at the burning bush?

A: The eternal God is greater than anything that exists!

Grade 5-6

Q: How do we know that God is real?

A: God still reveals Himself today as the Holy Spirit gives faith to believe the testimony of nature, the Bible and the Church.

Family Activities:

1) Discuss specific ways God has revealed something about Himself to you. 

2) How do your words and actions reveal who you really are? Share something about yourself that may not be visible to others.

Key Passage: Genesis 37, 39-46

Basic Truth: God has a plan and a purpose for everything He does.

Memory Verse: "I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times, what is still to come. I say: My purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please." Isaiah 55:8-9

Think about it: 

Most of us have no direct experience with dictators or sovereign authorities.  What we read about such kings and powerful rulers often reveals an evil individual whose only concern is his own selfish desires.

How different from the omnipotent, the Almighty God!  When He says, “My purpose will
stand, and I will do all that I please” (Isaiah 46:10), we can know without a doubt that His purposes are always for OUR good!

Pray that the infinite love and wisdom of God will shine through as you present this lesson so your students will gladly accept the authority of our Sovereign God.

Q: Name something that God made known in "ancient times" that has still not happened. 

A: Jesus is coming to earth again...He will take all believers to heaven...

Grade 1-2

Q: Why did Joseph still trust God when things looked so bad? 

A: Joseph knew that God is always in control and he had faith, trusting God's plan.

Grade 3-4

Q: Why did God bring israel's family to Egypt?

A: God was faithfully keeping His covenant with Abraham and carrying out His own plans by protecting the growing nation of Israel. 

Grade 5-6

Q: Why is life never "unfair"?

A: All of life belongs to God, and He has authority to use people and circumstances for His own purposes. 

Family Activities:

1) Read age-appropriate parts of the account of Joseph from Genesis 37 and 39-47

Memory Verse Challenge Information

Just in case this note didn't make it home :)...

Attention parents!

You are receiving this because your child expressed interest in participating in our memory verse challenge. This booklet contains the God Alone memory verses for each week. Our goal is to have kids memorize 4 verses each month. If they are able to memorize all 4 verses for that month, they will receive a prize. At the end of the year, we would like to give a 'grand prize' for those who were able to memorize 15 out of the 19 verses (one week there is a repeat verse). Below are some 'rules' and guidelines...

- Children are able to recite their verses to both Wednesday and Sunday teachers. 

- Teachers will initial the box when verse is said correctly (Kids will recite each verse to 2 different teachers)

- Children can say the verse anytime during the month; the goal is simply to have all 4 done by the end of the month

- On the 1st Sunday and 1st Wednesday of each month those who said all 4 verses the previous month will be able to pick a prize.

- Children can say a verse anytime. Some may not be able to keep up with 4 per month, but if they would like to aim for the larger prize and complete 15 verses that is fine. We just want them memorizing scripture! 

- 1st-2nd graders only recite the underlined portion of scripture with the reference. 3rd-6th grade will recite the entire verse and reference. 

- If a child looses their booklet, we will have more available. However, they will need to re-recite all of the verses so that they can be initialed again. Please keep these nice and safe 

We would also encourage parents to participate and learn the verses with your child; it’s a great way to keep them motivated and learning scripture together!
